Fall Playing Season Is Complete But This Is Only The Beginning!

Smith Tennis practiced hard, trained daily, had fun and; in between, took on tough conference competition this fall. Smith bowed to MIT, Wellesley, Wheaton and Babson and defeated Springfield and Clark in conference play. The Mount Holyoke vs Smith match was the deciding match for conference qualification. The two teams played each other on the indoor courts at Smith on September 27. The match was split at 4-4 leaving the 5th singles to decide the winner. AnnElizabeth Konkel (MHC) battled and finally dominated the match defeating Eunice Zhao (SMI) 7-6 (8-6), 1-6, 6-3 at 11pm at night. The dual match between the two valley rivals lasted over 5 hours and MHC outlasted Smith for the 5-4 win and the opportunity to play in the NEWMAC conference championship in October.

The conference championship was won by Wellesley over MIT.

Smith is already looking ahead to spring competition and their annual sprring break sojourn to Hilton Head Island. In an effort to off set the expense of travel, the players can be found running USTA QuickStart on Fridays through November for 10 and under kids.

During the off season, you will find the team engaged in community serviceprogects for such causes as Safe Passages and the Food Bank in addition to fund raising, captains' practices, social get-togethers and conditioning.

Check in frequently to see what the temmis players are doing during the winter season and Happy Thanksgiving to you all!
