Smith College Tennis hosted Nichols College on Saturday, March 9 at 11am. Winning for Smith were Victoria von Saucken and Carly Melillo at third doubles and newcomer to the starting line-up at number 6 singles, Tessy Lopez. All three first years competed with poise and determination. Last match on the court, Tessy showed composure under pressure in her match as she battled for the third set tiebreaker win in front of all of her coaches and peers and opponents. Jordan Dubin posted at close three set match at number 1 singles winning the first set with a decisive 6-3 and dropping the next two sets. Andrea Tanco came through with an impressive straight set win at exhibition singles. Although her match did not add into the official varsity count, it was a chance for Andrea to show her improvement in consistency and patience as she matched her opponent shot for shot.
Smith is now 1-1 in the spring season heading for spring break. Next match will be at Newbury College on March 16.
