The Smith College tennis team overcame last-minute adjustments to their
line-up, and a tough Springfield Pride tennis team to notch a 7-2 victory on
Tuesday evening. The afternoon began with the team exchanging "Secret
Sister" gifts that included fun posters, and of course, chocolate and other
tasty goodies! This team spirit carried over into the doubles portion of
the match, which featured a few new doubles pairings for Smith College.
Smith led 2-1 heading into singles play, where they quickly went up a set
on four courts. Springfield fought back as the match headed into the
evening hours, winning second sets in two of those matches. In the end, the
Smith College tennis team showed their "scrappiness," heart, and fight as
they pulled out five of the six singles matches, with three team members
winning in three sets. With two starters for SC on the sideline with
injuries and illness, this was truly a team effort by the Pioneers. Smith
looks forward to carrying this wave of confidence into their next two
matches against MIT and Clark. GO SMITH!
