Match Victory Leads into NEWMAC

The Smith College tennis team began its week with a key victory over Clark University last Tuesday, which secured them a spot in the NEWMAC Conference Championships! This win carried over into the weekend, where the Smith College Tennis participated in the New England Tennis Championships. With four teams of two players each competing in the Fed Cup style tournament, the highlight of the weekend came when the team of second years Nawal Mays and Maggie Steiner reached the finals of the consolation draw. Although the team fell to the ever-tough Babson Beavers in the finals, Maggie and Nawal put up a great fight, and feel as if they got a lot of good experience playing so many matches over the three-day tournament. The Smith team looks forward to their last week of practice for the fall season as they prepare for the conference championships this Saturday at MHC. Although they will be practicing hard, the team also knows how to have fun as they plan to take a break during practice tomorrow to decorate pumpkins.
