Smith's #2 doubles team of senior Alanna Dick (Winthrop, ME) and sophomore Clair Oblamski (Elm Grove, WI) played a flawless match to defeat Babson's Lorena Becerra and Liz Sheerin 9-7, earning Smith's only point in an eventual 1-8 team loss. Dick and Oblamski's tenacious play highlighted an overall strong effort from the Pioneers.
Sophomore Gianna Teague (Gahanna, OH) and freshman Holly Reich (Roslyn Heights, NY) both played singles matches that were tests of endurance. Playing at #2 singles, Reich was defeated 7-5, 7-6 (7-5) by Rebecca Stone in a tough two set loss. At #4 singles, Teague and opponent Monica Mercer went three sets, with Mercer eventually prevailing 3-6, 6-4, 7-5.
The overall match remained undecided until late in the singles play. Babson took control of the match by capitalizing on long points, while Smith players proved to be the "point makers". Smith displayed heart & determination.
