The Smith College Tennis Team jumped to action February 20 taking the courts of the Indoor Track and Tennis Facility at 6am for practices. The culmination of the week of early morning practices resulted in a first match win! Smith College Tennis defeated Curry College 7-2 in the opener on Sat., February 25 in a home match.. Captained by Robyn Cyr, the seasoned line-up included Gianna Teague at first doubles and first singles. Jordan Dubin, Bayla Weick, Allie Ryan, Julia Signell and Grace McKay Corkum rounded out the singles line-up. Robyn Cyr and Seema Samawi represented Smith in exhibition matches. New additions to the spring line-up include Jana Chan and Haruka Shimoto.
Smith took 2 out of the 3 doubles matches giving Smith a 2-1 lead heading into singles. The Pioneers dominated the singles winning 5 out of the 6 positions with Jordan Dubin decisively bringing in the first singles point and Allie Ryan tying up the win with a three set victory. The final match score was a 7-2 overall victory for Smith. Smith Tennis is 1-0 for the spring and they will be back in action on Saturday, March 3 vs Bates. The match will be played at Mount Holyoke College and will begin at 3pm.
