Tough Loss for the Pioneers

The Smith College Tennis Team dropped an 8-1 decision to Connecticut College on Saturday that saw Smith lose the top four singles matches in tiebreakers. Mount Holyoke College was the host site on march 31 for the "home" match of the Pioneers.

The Camels swept all three doubles matches entering singles with a 3-0 lead. Smith would battle back in singles play, as Oblamski earned Smith's only point at No. 5 with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Swanson. But the Pioneers could not get a tiebreaker to go their way on Saturday, as Teague fell to Krivoshik 5-7, 6-5, (10-12) at No. 1 singles, and Dubin lost to Herbert 5-7, 6-1, (6-10) at No. 2. Inskeep was beaten by Cangemi 2-6, 6-3, (6-10), at the No. 3 spot, and Badik edged Bayla Weick 7-5, 4-6, (5-10) at No. 4. Rohrbach also got a win for Conn. College at No. 6, with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Grace McKay-Corkum.

This concludes the final home matches for Smith this spring. The Pioneers will next be in action at the Seven Sisters Championship, beginning on April 14 at Mount Holyoke College.
