Smith Takes On Wheaton in 2d Match of Fall Season

Smith Tennis traveled to Wheaton College on Sat, Sept 17 to take on the defending conference champs. Smith's third doubles team of Eunice Zhao and Julia Signell won their match but it was still not enough to give Smith a lead. Smith entered the singles down 1-2 and the Pioneers were never able to recover as the Wheaton team showed their patience and tenacity outlasting the Smith Team and winning the match 8-1. Allie Ryan and Eunice Zhao put up the best fight in singles earning four games each and keeping their opponents from scoring a 6-0 set. Grace McKay-Corkum and Szilvi Kiss won their exhibition matches. Szilvi remains undefeated in match play.

Congratulation to Eunice and Julia for winning at third doubles and also receiving Smith's players of the week.

Smith hosts Babson on Saturday, Sept 24 at 1pm. The day will begin with open tennis for the community and the USTA Kid's Day starting at 12:30pm. All are invited to join in the fun and enjoy the refreshments at courtside. Match play will be outside if weather permits and inside if rain.
