The Smith tennis team rebounded from the Seven Sisters tournament with a brilliant showing this past weekend at home. Smith fought hard against Union College Saturday morning, pulling out a 7-2 victory. But it turns out they were just getting warmed up. Smith played even better during their second match of the day against Roger Williams University, winning 9-0. Highlights of the long but exciting day included a debut singles match by sophomore Yelihan Fofana, (prevailing at #6 singles) and veteran Maggie Steiner battling back from 4-5 in both matches to come out on top. Her quote of the day "I vow never to play another tiebreaker - I will try my hardest not to let it get to that point" showed her grit and determination. Overall, the Smith team was impressive in their use of a ever-frustrating "drop shot / lob" combo, and displayed exceptional flow and use of their "hammer-wedge" partnerships in doubles. The team is looking forward to a four-day holiday weekend before resuming play next Wed. vs. Trinity.
